We held a Student Work Placement & Graduate Programme Review at our Tom Johnson House Project in Dublin 4. Our students and graduates all joined from various sites and offices to participate in the session. We would like to congratulate each member of the programme who delivered fantastic presentations to members of our Management & Senior Management Team.
Each student and graduate delivered a short presentation on their learning experiences throughout the development programme so far. This provided an opportunity to review what was learnt, how each member of the programme is getting on and where they may like more visibility or to trial a different working area. Richard Watson completed his work placement with us and upon graduating from Construction Management in TU Dublin he joined our team. He shared an interesting insight into the programme:
“From day one of arriving in Dorset Street with very little knowledge of how a construction site works, I was treated like a member of the team by everyone from the foremen to the contracts managers. When given a new task it was explained thoroughly to me, not once was I expected to know everything and I was always encouraged to ask as many questions as necessary which made it much easier to learn. The advice I was given was “you will get out of this placement what you put into it”, which in the end I realised is true, the more you are willing to learn the more responsibilities you will get, which will help you progress your development”.
It was incredible to see the next generation of industry leaders practicing their presentation skills and sharing their learning experiences.
Duggan Brothers (Contractors) Ltd wish the best to all the students with their continued education and look forward to working together following their graduation.
