St. Vincent’s Community Nursing Unit

This project comprised the construction and delivery of a new 50-bed Community Nursing Unit within the existing St. Vincent’s Community Nursing Unit campus in Mountmellick, Co. Laois. The works were successfully completed, delivering a major expansion of healthcare facilities on the site.

The development required complex enabling works, including significant underground services diversions, demolition of existing on-site structures and integration of the new building with the existing healthcare facility. Both temporary and permanent relocation of key campus services — including the central plant, laundry and ESB substation — were undertaken while maintaining a live hospital environment.

The completed development consists of a two-storey, 50-bed Community Nursing Unit, together with refurbished accommodation within the existing building, providing a total completed floor area of approximately 4,200 m².

The scope of works also included reconfiguration of the site entrance and internal roadways, new drainage and site-wide service infrastructure, upgraded car parking, and comprehensive landscaping to enhance the overall campus environment.

Delivered within a fully operational hospital campus, the project represents a significant enhancement to St. Vincent’s Community Nursing Unit, providing modern, high-quality accommodation and facilities for residents and staff.
