Due to continued growth and the delivery of major civic infrastructure projects, we are currently seeking a experienced Site Engineer to join our team. This full-time, permanent role is based in Portlaoise, where we are delivering a landmark facility for An Garda Síochána. Project Overview: 

This transformative project involves the refurbishment and expansion of the existing Garda station within a historic military fort in Portlaoise, creating a modern, secure, and operationally advanced headquarters for the Laois-Offaly Division of An Garda Síochána.

Key features of the project include:

  • Construction of a new three-storey office block on the adjacent army site
  • Extensive renovation and partial demolition of the existing station buildings
  • Replacement of outdated 1980s structures and the original 1910 gymnasium with modern, purpose-built facilities
  • Integration of advanced infrastructure to support modern policing demands, high security, and future community growth
  • A design that balances historic preservation with contemporary functionality

 

Position Details

  • Job Title: Site Engineer
  • Location: Portlaoise
  • Job Type: Permanent, full-time
  • Salary: Competitive / Negotiable
  • Reports to: Site Manager/ Project Manager
  • Minimum Experience Required: 3 Years

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate site records, drawings and documentation
  • Interpret and communicate complex plans and technical specifications to site teams
  • Manage, monitor and coordinate site works in line with contract documents
  • Liaise with consultants, subcontractors, architects, planners and the wider project team
  • Supervise and coordinate subcontractor works and direct labour on a daily basis
  • Organise site logistics and plant use to maximise efficiency
  • Oversee quality control, BCAR compliance and site health and safety implementation
  • Conduct regular safety checks and ensure all activities adhere to regulatory standards
  • Identify and resolve technical challenges and site-based issues promptly
  • Plan work schedules to meet key project milestones and deadlines
  • Ensure works meet specification and programme while maintaining high safety and quality standards

 

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar role within the construction industry
  • Relevant qualification in Civil Engineering/ Construction Management or related field
  • Enthusiastic and motivated individual with a proactive approach to work
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • Proven ability to manage engineering responsibilities on public, civic or structural building projects
  • Proficiency in setting out, AutoCAD, Total Station, GPS, and surveying tools
  • In-depth knowledge of building regulations, certification standards, and HSEQ practices
  • Familiarity with BCAR coordination and quality assurance procedures
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently with a proactive mindset
